The lake pond is a former raft pond created in the 17th century (1680), making it the oldest raft pond in Solling. The dam can still be seen today (you walk over it coming from Lakenstraße) and still serves its purpose. The purpose of the pond has of course changed since rafting stopped at the beginning of the 20th century. Today the pond is a biotope for various animal and plant species, including numerous amphibians, 12 species of dragonflies and orchids on the wet meadows near the pond. Of course, the people here can enjoy the idyllic views and places by the pond. A walk along the lake pond is actually highly recommended. The display boards provide a lot of information about the rafters' history. It is easy to imagine that the three moss-covered birch trees on the edge of the dam wall are the most popular view of the lake and the most "shot" photo on the lake pond.
