In the shade of old chestnut trees, you can enjoy a beer in the summer, the beautiful view of the vineyards, Schriesheim and the Rhine valley (up to the Palatinate Forest). The restaurant is okay, the prices slightly increased and the service is usually nice. The way up from Schriesheim is short and there is a parking lot behind the castle, so that it can be full in the summer and takes a bit longer.
In winter (January, February), the restaurant - like unfortunately most restaurants in the Odenwald - closed.

The descent through the vineyards is not entirely safe for the elderly, as it goes very steeply downhill. Good footwear is required!

This time we went back and forth over the castle path, but you can also choose the Blütenweg (below) or the way over the Mount of Olives for one of the directions, if you get along well with Komoot. I'm still at war with the SW :(

Just above Schriesheim castle ruin. From the old town in a few minutes by a short climb through the vineyards. The castle complex houses a restaurant. Of course, anyone who wants to can climb the Mount of Olives above the castle.

Always great for the vision and good starting point to the Mount of Olives.

Beautiful varied trail with great views to the Palatinate Forest.

Not to mention the magnificent view of the plain, which you can enjoy from here

Great castle with a wonderful view in the distance.
But unfortunately closed. 😪

The only way to get to the castle is through the restaurant. But there is also a great place below with a view of Schriesheim. And from below the castle is also very nice to look at.

The Strahlenburg was "illegally" built around 1235 by Conrad I von Strahlenburg and had to be ceded to the Ellwangen monastery. Around 1500 the castle was destroyed by fire. The vineyards were fenced in with the bricks. to get the wine theft under control.
The castle inn was set up around 1900 and is still in operation today.

Good starting point in the direction of Heidelberg.

The Strahlenburg is the most impressive ruin on the southern Bergstrasse. The castle was built in 1237 by Conrad von Strahlberg.
Really very nice and well worth a visit, but it was also quite busy today
March 20, 2021
According to the sign, it is currently open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. Was there on Monday, so the castle was closed.

Nice hike through the old town and vineyards in Schriesheim.

But of course worth a visit to this castle, located on the Burgeweg of the Odenwald club. In the winter months is often closed ... But the view from here in the Rhine valley is great.
February 15, 2019
Good rest stop, if you can sit outside ...
March 31, 2019
Before 1237, the Lords of Strahlens erected a castle on the flank of the Mount of Olives.
The mighty remains of the wall of the palace with its striking window front to the west and south, together with the keep, became a widely visible symbol of Schriesheim.
The castle is privately owned and houses a restaurant. March - December daily from 11:00 am, open all day; January and February company holidays
