Greywacke, a sedimentary rock, has been mined and processed in the quarries for over 300 years. The natural stone is used for the production of floor slabs, wall and paving stones and is now known and loved far beyond the local borders. Numerous historical buildings in and around Lindlar are built with greywacke, the best known and most visible example of this is the Catholic parish church of St. Severin in the heart of the town.
