Menin Gate Memorial

This honorary arch is dedicated to all those unidentified British and Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of Ypres. The road leading from here out of Ypres towards Menin was one of the most important routes to the front east of Ypres. Daily at 8 p.m., traffic is stopped and the city fire brigade buglers play "The Last Post" in memory of the fallen.

This ceremony leaves no one untouched...
Every day at 20:00 "Be There" Every time we visit the Battlefields in Ypres and the surrounding area with guests, attending this daily ceremony is a must. The sound of trumpets under the triumphal arch for the many thousands and thousands of heroes who travelled along this route to the battlefields and never returned, leaves no one untouched. Many soldiers lost their lives and were never found again. Today, more than 100,000 rest in the Flanders fields. Almost 55,000 names of soldiers are forever carved into the stone panels here. The Menin Gate, a hero's gate for those who died and were missing. The other, more than 35,000 missing soldiers are commemorated at Tyne Cot Cemetery and other cemeteries. We Will Remember Them…
