The Verdronken Weide is a nature reserve near the West Flemish city of Ypres. It is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forests and it measures just over 40 hectares.
From 1992-1996 this area was designed as a water storage area. The water of the Bollaertbeek in particular is buffered here. This water is also used for the production of drinking water.
There is a deep pond in the area, on the banks of which are many riparian plants. There are also grasslands with varying water levels, where marsh sorrel, silver magenta, feathery tooth seed, beautiful centaury and flat russet are found.
More than 160 bird species occur in the area. rare species include: garnet, shoveler, little plover, avocet, sedge warbler, water rail and bluethroat.
Part of the area is grazed by cattle. You can also walk there and there is a bird watching hut.
