At the request of the Knighthood of the Duchy of Bremen, the Swedish King Carl IX gave the Neuenwalde Monastery in 1863 the Knighthood of the Duchy of Bremen, which the monastery maintains and operates as a women's charity until today. It is the only surviving monastery in the Elbe-Weser triangle.
