The construction of the Velden city wall began at the end of the 14th century, essentially the wall continues today as it did when it was built. In the west the wall opened to the Wachtberg through the so-called mill gate. The mill gate tower is the last of three gate towers still intact. The tower is 12 meters high and measures approximately 6 by 6 meters in plan. There are three floors above the passage, which were restored after the destruction of the war around 1960.
