    Parish Church of St. Pankratius

There was probably a chapel in Herschwiesen as early as the 10th century, which belonged to the parish of Boppard and which was donated to Martin's monastery in Worms by Emperor Otto the Ill. In 992. The Herschwiesen church is mentioned in a document in 1241, as well as in 1475 when the diocese was visited. Due to the increased population in the Niederkirchspiel, the pastor at the time, Matthias Metzen, pushed for a new building, which was approved on June 10, 1744 by the Trier Elector and Bishop Franz Georg von Schönborn. The construction work was carried out from 1744 to 1746 using stone material from the old building according to the planning and under the direction of master builder Johann Neurohr from Tyrol. On September 26, 1747, the new parish church was consecrated. The construction costs amounted to 8,162 Reichstaler, 28 Albus and 2 Pfennig. The church is equipped with a magnificent ciboric altar in the style of the high altar in Worms Cathedral by Balthasar Neumann. Also noteworthy is the organ made in 1783 by the organ builder Peter Senff from Koblenz. The 14 station pictures of the Way of the Cross, which initially hung in the Koblenz Carmelite Church, come from Januarius Zick from Koblenz. The baroque parish church is located in an ensemble with the parsonage, the farm building with barn and stable as well as the parish garden, enclosed by a large stone wall in the center of the village of Herschwiesen.
