A surrounding moat gave it the name "Wasserschloss". The irregular, three-story square structure was built between 1551 and 1553 by Hans Dietrich von Gemmingen and Magdalena Mundbrat von Spiegelberg. The current stair tower was only built in 1720. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building almost fell victim to demolition. The outbreak of the First World War prevented this. The moated castle was extensively renovated in 2013/2014.
