Best Hikes to Cable pulley from the Mathias Stinnes mine on Halde 19

Tips

  • The heap 19 is a small and almost forgotten spoil heap on the border between Gladbeck and Essen. It is accessible with beautiful broad, partly paved paths up to the summit landmark, which - despite its age - still makes it easy to climb. Although the view is now completely overgrown due to the considerable vegetation, small spaces and storage space invite you to linger.

  • One of the dumps on Gladbeck's urban area. At the "summit" without a view, but with a large rope pulley and a rest area.

  • Halde 19, which at some point in the mining days was carelessly forgotten to give it a name instead of a number. And it's often even called Kippe 19, which is a bit unfair. After all, its summit is 62 meters above sea level. And at least from the northern peak you have a sensational view of the Rungenberg heap, Schalke's Arena and you can even see the horizon observatory on the Hoheward heap in the haze. Here is the rope sheave of the Mathias Stinnes 4 colliery.
"... The Mathias Stinnes 3/4 complex shaped the Brauck district of Gladbeck. Many new apartments for miners were built there after World War II The Welheim colliery was connected from here from 1931 and underground production was taken over from 1965. In 1967, shaft 5 became the central conveyor shaft and thus the independent operation ended. At the same time, the coking plant was shut down. The Rheinbaben 3 shafts were still being used /4 connected to the ventilation of the mine field, but the end of the entire system of the entire system was already foreseeable. ..."
