Presiding over the Lairig an Laoigh pass, Beinn a’ Chaorainn is a Munro reaching 3,553 feet (1,083 m) in Scotland’s wild Cairngorms National Park. Commonly climbed in conjunction with Beinn Bhreac, the two Munros are separated by a vast plateau, Moine Bhealaigh, and make for a fantastic peak-bagging adventure.
Beinn a’ Chaorainn is commonly approached from the south. You can park at Linn of Dee and hike or cycle to Derry Lodge, beginning the ascent from there either via Beinn Bhreac or from the glen further up. You could also ascend via the mighty Carn Gorm, to the north west, although this route would require you topping the towering peak twice.
Beinn a’ Chaorainn is a remote Munro and the terrain is a nice mixture of bogs, peat, heather and rocks. There’s nothing technical but the mountains here are very exposed, so dress appropriately and keep an eye on conditions.
Beinn a' Chaorainn is a 1,082m Munro mountain in the Scottish Highlands - more specifically the Cairngorms National Park. We approached this mountain top in the late afternoon on our third day of sleeping wild on a peak bagging expedition for 14 Munro mountains.

A good path past Derry Lodge and up Glen Derry, however depending on the approach this Munro can seem a long way. A faint path leads directly up from the Glen, however to also bag Beinn Bhreac there is no path only peat bog in between them
