Probably the tallest tree in the Wetterau has American roots. The redwood on the former Forsthaus Glaubzahl, near Nidda-Harb, on the road to Hungen, is 40 meters high and has a trunk circumference of more than six meters. At first glance, the tree looks a bit plucked. “We recently had to remove some dry branches. Now the tree is vital and healthy again and can continue to grow for a long time, ”says Dr. Tim Mattern, from the Nature Conservation and Landscape Management Department of the Wetteraukreis.Anyone who believes that these gigantic trees have reached a biblical age is extremely wrong. The beautiful specimen probably comes from the same breeding as the sequoias northeast of Rainrod. Here the age can be determined quite precisely. The giant tree of California was sown in a garden in Griesheim near Darmstadt in 1895. In 1899 the tender little plants came to Schotten and to the Forsthaus Glaubzahl.
