Here you get a good impression of how it went in the Ruhr Valley at the time of coal mining - impressive. You should definitely look at it!

The colliery Zollverein was an active from 1851 to 1986 hard coal mine in Essen.
It is today an architectural and industrial monument. Together with the directly adjacent coking plant Zollverein, the mines 12 and 1/2/8 of the mine have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 2001. Zollverein is the anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage.

The work suits of yesteryear have now disappeared the filth of coal too.
Today, families come to bury the beauty of the old workplace, possibly grandfather is told of the once.

Huge area of the old coal mine and coking plant Zollverein. Anyone who is interested in work during the operating hours can either go to the museum or be guided through the catacombs.

Absolutely interesting industrial monuments with the Red Dot Design Museum, the Ruhr Museum, probably the most beautiful winding tower in the world, Bauhaus-style architecture and the impressive backdrop of the coking plant Zollverein. Several cafes invite you to linger.

We went from Mülheim by bike through beautiful park landscapes and later on the railway line to the colliery Zollverein. On the way there is a lake with a nice biker safe and you should definitely see the Möbelloft on site. We will definitely go there again. We liked everything very much

A piece of history with many events throughout the year.
Whether ice skating on the coke ovens of the coking plant or good food at the mine when the restaurants in Essen show up here once a year.
    Lectures, art, ...
There is often something going on inside and out!
