Tips

This approximately seven-kilometer cycle path runs mostly along the old route of the Hugo Bahn, which was part of the once dense network of coal mines in the Ruhr. The coal mine Hugo has been closed since the year 2000, since then was diligently built on the bike path, which was finally finished 2017 in its current form.

The path is mostly equipped with water-bound ceiling, the newer parts are paved. You cycle to a few intersections car-free. The track is really nice - if you fancy a piece of real pot culture, make a short detour to Jockels Büdchen, which is only a few meters away from the tracks in a parallel street: komoot.de highlight / 539,058th

The last completed section of the Hugo route is paved. It leads you directly to the Emscher.

On the last section of the Hugobahn you can only get comfortably on the paved road to the Emscher.

Meanwhile, the piece should also be routable via the app.

The Nordsternpark is very beautiful and the view of the canal and the lock are always worthwhile.

The southern section, which previously had to be bypassed on the road, is now finished. Therefore you can drive through from the ex-coal mine Hugo car-free to the Emscherweg at the spectacular Sutum bridges.

The Hugotrasse starts at a high Gelsenkirchen animal shelter, so it connects to the Emscher cycle path, you drive a small part of the Emscher cycle path that then automatically becomes the Hugotrasse after almost 2 km there is a small park with a winding tower.
