Not much to see of the old mill, but a really interesting story.

The customs tower was built around the year 1000 as a pass barrier on the road between Mainz and Bad Kreuznach. The name goes back to a legend about Saint Ursula of Cologne: On the way back from a pilgrimage to Rome, she crossed the Selz here with her entourage of 11,000 (yes, eleven thousand!) virgins.
In the hope that another 11,000 virgins would follow the same route, the Elsheim Schnorresänger took over the sponsorship.(Interesting connection with the "Virgin Islands" 😉.)

Very well preserved ruins of a fortified gatehouse with two round corner towers. There is also a resting place here.
