There are still some well-preserved bleaching houses from the mid-19th century on Ulmenstrasse. After the Hamburg fire in 1842, the progressive industrialization and the redesign of the inner city, many parts of the population were relocated to the surrounding area. The bleachers represented the largest group of new winter hounds.

It's great that these old houses have survived here in the middle of the city to this day. Hopefully it stays that way, as a souvenir of how it used to be here.
