A beautiful well-kept place which is an ideal starting point for hikes or bike tours. The Kanonenbahn cycle path also runs along the Kanonenbahn to Dingelstädt.
Lengenfeld unterm Stein lies on the Hessian-Thuringian border at the upper reaches of the Frieda, a right-hand tributary of the Werra. The place is about 15 kilometers west of the district town of Mühlhausen. Characteristic of the place is its location in a valley, surrounded by steeply rising hills crowned by shell limestone rocks. The lowest point of the location is located at about 230 m above sea level in the Friedatal valley west of Lengenfeld. The highest elevation is the 476.6 m high Kälberberg in the east. Other surveys are the Stein (457.3 m NN) in the southeast, the Dünberg (445.4 m) in the south, the Walperbiel (450.5 m NN) in the north and the Schlossberg (401.9 m NN) in the northwest.
