The dome of the radar station on Döbraberg, which can be seen from afar, always offers hikers and nature lovers good orientation during outdoor fun in the Franconian Forest. In addition, it is ideal for every season of the year as a photo motif from various panoramic views of the area.

The radar station at Döbraberg was put into operation by the US Air Force in 1961, and in 1974 the facility was then taken over by the German Armed Forces. During the Cold War until the end of the 1980s, this radar station was an important part of NATO's air defense system due to its proximity to the GDR.
Currently there is only one spherical radar dome in the military restricted area on the Döbraberg summit, in the past there were even three. After reunification, the station lost its importance and is also used for civilian airspace surveillance.
