Seelow is one of the smallest district towns in Germany and has had a long tradition as a district town since 1863. In 2002 Seelow celebrated its 750th anniversary with over 40,000 guests. The city lies at the intersection of two formerly important trade routes on the Oderbruch plateau. The location on the trade routes shaped the history of the city of Seelow.
