Impressive how the colors green and yellow/orange shine in the forest. Absolutely mesmerizing! 👍👍

The Sirný pramen (sulfur spring) is located in the forested valley of the Hamerský potok (Hammerbach). On the right bank of the stream you can see a pond about 3 m in diameter with an abundant source of iron-rich water in which yellow-brown to rust-brown flakes float freely, which the vernacular said were sulfur flakes. It was not until 1907 that Professor Hans Molisch from the German University in Prague found that this color was caused by thread-like bacteria Leptothrix ochracea, which derive their energy from the oxidation of compounds of divalent to trivalent iron dissolved in water. These bacteria are particularly common in water with a higher iron content and can also be encountered in other parts of the Lusatian Mountains.

From a small parking lot by the forest on the other side of the street, a few steps lead down into the Bachtal. There the path leads over a bridge and then always along the Hammersbach to the sulfur spring.
