It has been part of the historical and religious heritage of San Cristóbal de La Laguna since the 16th century. It was founded around 1515 by the Augustinian monks, during the campaign to conquer the Canary Islands. For a long time it was the only secondary school in the Canary Islands. In the 1960s, the adjacent church was hit by a huge fire and today the restoration is in preparation. It has been a property of cultural interest in the Monument category since 1983.

Hiking

Despite the structural changes that were made to the monastery in the 18th century, many elements of the original building are still preserved. This also includes the Renaissance cloister. For a long time it was the first university and the only high school in the Canary Islands, where personalities such as Benito Pérez Galdós, Óscar Domínguez or Juan Negrín received their education. After a fire in 1964, only ruins remain of the church. From the street you can see its original structure with the rectangular layout and the three naves separated by partitions with rows of arched arcades.
