The S-Bahn station was originally called Zehlendorf-Beerenstraße, from 1911 Zehlendorf West and from 1959 Lindenthaler Allee, was closed between 1980 and 1985 and was given the name Mexikoplatz in 1987. Both the station building, the platform and the railway bridge over Lindenthaler Allee were built by Hart & Lesser between 1903 and 1905. The entire complex is one of the Berlin cultural monuments.

The station takes its name from the square of the same name in front of it. The station, built in Art Nouveau style with its distinctive dome, is now a listed building.
