The pebbly-sandy soils of the Grafenberger and Aaper forest come from ancient deposits of the Rhine. The striking steep step on the western edge of the forest area today shapes the transition to the Bergisches Land. The hilly and slightly mountainous shape of this urban forest district makes it particularly attractive for visitors. It always offers new views, varied forest pictures and smaller gorges. The viewpoints Sandberg, Schöne Aussicht, Rather- and Ratinger Blick also offer surprising perspectives on the urban landscape.
