"The Raffelberg hydroelectric power station was built as a transverse structure in the canal area to supplement the existing lock system at the same location. The founding shareholders were the city of Mülheim an der Ruhr and the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Hütte. The purpose of the company was both port construction and the production of electricity. The planned barrage allowed an average head of 6.15 meters Long-term observation of the outflow of the Ruhr made it possible to install four machines with a total connected load of 5.2 MW.
They are mounted upright according to the Francis concept and were built by Siemens-Schuckert-Werke in 1922. This original technique is still in use today. The plant has been supplying electricity since 1926; on average, 23.5 million kWh are generated per year through the natural inflow of the Ruhr water. This makes it the largest run-of-river power plant on the Ruhr.
The building has been one of the city's architectural monuments since 1986 and is part of the Industrial Heritage Route."

"The Raffelberg Ruhr lock is a lock on the Ruhr shipping canal in Mülheim an der Ruhr in the Speldorf district. In the immediate vicinity of the Raffelberg hydroelectric power station and a good 600 meters from the Rhein-Ruhr port, it is the penultimate lock on the Ruhr. The water of the Ruhr is dammed at the Raffelberg weir.
The lock has a usable length of 135.00 meters and a usable width of 12.80 meters and is designed for class Va inland waterways for large Rhine ships. The descent structure enables access from the Rhine, the Duisburg-Ruhrort ports or the Rhine-Herne canal to the Rhine-Ruhr port and the Friedrich Wilhelms-Hütte. Like the Ruhr lock in Duisburg, the system is remote-controlled from the lock in Meiderich. With the weir and hydroelectric power station, it is the second-lowest barrage of the Ruhr, and if there is a large volume of water, the Rhine can rise over the first barrage in Duisburg to Raffelberg."

Beautiful, classic industrial building. Suitable for the Ruhr area.

Old building. Classic architectural style. Blends in well with the landscape.
