The Hoheward dump is part of the “Industrial Heritage Route” and the Hoheward Landscape Park. When visibility is good, the all-round view in every direction is breathtaking. This is complemented by informative panoramic boards.

The horizon observatory was built on the summit plateau in 2008. The modern building consists of a circular, flat surface, a sunken forum and two arches with a radius of approx. 45 m, which span the square like the great circles of the meridian and celestial equator. The Horizon Observatory is intended to represent a modern version of prehistoric stone circles and structures such as Stonehenge.

Shortly after the facility opened, cracks were discovered in the equator arch and the facility was closed for safety reasons and the arch was temporarily supported by two additional pillars. Unfortunately, it is still unclear when it will be accessible again. A visit is still definitely worth it.
