It originally consisted of the outer gate built around 1500 with two flanking towers, which were defended by the shepherds and the shoemakers and were therefore called the shepherd's tower and the cobbler's tower. Behind it was the inner gate, in between a gate courtyard. The Schäferturm was also called the Rosentorzwinger and took over the name Achtermann around 1800. The actual Achtermann, a defense tower built in 1501 between the Breite Tor and the Rosentor, was demolished in 1792. A decorated niche with an imperial figure from this defensive tower found its place in the outer facade of the Rosentorzwinger and was then the reason for the renaming.

A structurally very interesting gate. Unfortunately, the stairs are not accessible.
