Industrial history quite interesting. There are some water management equipment on the canal that you can enter.

Already in the early Middle Ages the hydropower of the Alb was in various forms
Mill structures used. After numerous oil and saw mills, loh mills
and hammer mills, grinding mills and hemp pounding, the first Baden paper mill was built in Ettlingen in 1452, from which three and a half centuries later a major industry emerged that today still guarantees Ettlingen's reputation as a papermaking town.
There are currently five hydropower plants in operation on the Alb for generating electricity, which feed a total of around 2.5 MW into the municipal utility's low-voltage network. These systems are not without problems for nature conservation, as some of the water is withdrawn from the Alb through the necessary canal systems, which leads to an ecological impairment of the flowing water. The way here along the Mühlkanal is beautiful to walk.
