Leum Uilleim is a fantastically remote Corbett in the Scottish Highlands, between Blackwater Reservoir and Corrour Station. Thanks to the rail link, you can not only reach the mountain fairly easily but it’s a short and reasonably straightforward ascent. At 2,982 feet (909 m), the summit provides astounding views across the vast Rannoch Moor as well as to the mighty Ben Nevis.
The only obvious starting point is Corrour Station unless you’re after a multi-day hike. Arriving by train to the country’s most remote station certainly adds extra magic to the adventure. The approach can be boggy and waterproof boots are essential, although it gets drier the higher you ascend. The views start early on, so pause often to marvel at the landscapes around you.
At the summit, you’ll be reaching for your camera in clear weather for the panorama is extravagant to say the least.
The Corbett is, as a hill, a rather rounded pudding, but commands one of the most wide-ranging views in the Highlands.
