The famous noble family of Borgia is originally from Spain. At the beginning of the 15th century, they came to power and money in Italy. Rodrigo Borgia, later Pope Alexander VI, was in the middle of the 15th century. Ruler in Nepi, had the previous castle expand and gave it to his daughter Lucrezia.
After the Borgia had lost power and influence in the 16th century, the fortress passed to the Farnese family, who also expanded it.
In 1789, when the French invaded Napoleon, the fort was badly damaged and fell into decay.
