"Rafting is an ancient trade and for over 600 years, until the end of the 19th century, it determined the lives and fates of many people in our town. The town of Wolfach has erected a monument to the brave men in their high boots who, with strength and skill, tied the Black Forest firs together to make rafts up to 700 metres long and steered them down the Kinzig to the Rhine, with the Raftsmen's Park at the confluence of the Wolf and Kinzig."
