The church of Herzogenreuth is visible from afar. It stands on the highest point of the village (565 m above sea level) and is surrounded by a mighty natural stone wall, which gives it the character of a fortified church and village castle.
Its history goes back to the 13th century, as the Romanesque form of the unorganized choral tower with its meter-thick walls proves. As defensive as the church shows itself from the outside, it is so inviting inside.
Upon entering the church, the eye immediately falls on the altar in the sanctuary with the image of the patron saint of St. Nicholas.

The Church of St. Nicholas in Herzogenreuth is particularly noteworthy because of its very old tower, which is still Romanesque in the upper floors - atypical for the region - which is particularly reflected in the two double windows. This part of the church is dated to the 13th century.
