The great poet Theodor Fontane already enjoyed the unique, dreamy nature on the west bank of the Müggelsee. Today, the species-rich forest area "New Meadows" is designated as a landscape conservation area and makes the heart of every nature lover beat faster.

The Neue Wiesen are a beautiful wet meadow area between the Müggelheimer Damm and the Nachtheide in Köpenick. It is particularly beautiful here at high water and when the Kuhgraben (meadow ditch), which "flows" through the middle of the meadows, carries water. However, the ditch is mostly dry and only has residual water in a few places.

The Kuhgraben (Wiesengraben) begins at Müggelheimer Damm in the Kuhwall wetland area and ends at the Dahme, which is called Langer See here, on the Möllhausenufer in Wendenschloß. The ditch is said to have been much wider in the past and thus made the Kietzer Feld and the Eichhorn, today Wendenschloß, into islands. Due to the settlement of the area, the ditch was pushed further and further until only this fragment remained.
