Built between 1901 and 1905 and extended in several sections between 1927 and 1949, the town hall Köpenick has been a listed building since 1982. The building became world famous only one year after its construction by the so-called Captain von Köpenick. The unemployed shoemaker Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt arrested the mayor Georg Langhans on 16.10.1906 in a captain's uniform and with the help of ten soldiers who came in, and seized the city treasury.

The exterior façade with Rathenow bricks, designed in the style of the Brandenburg brick-and-tile Gothic, deserves special mention.
