Köpenick Town Hall

Built between 1901 and 1905 and extended in several sections between 1927 and 1949, the town hall Köpenick has been a listed building since 1982. The building became world famous only one year after its construction by the so-called Captain von Köpenick. The unemployed shoemaker Friedrich Wilhelm Voigt arrested the mayor Georg Langhans on 16.10.1906 in a captain's uniform and with the help of ten soldiers who came in, and seized the city treasury.

Not only the seat of the city administration of Köpenick, but landmark of Köpenick.
In front of it stands the famous "Captain von Köpenick".
The exterior façade with Rathenow bricks, designed in the style of the Brandenburg brick-and-tile Gothic, deserves special mention.

After the Schöneberg town hall, Berlin's most famous town hall, which gained fame when the cobbler Voigt as captain of Köpenick fooled the authorities here
