The origins of the Plater church date back to the 13th century. The nave, with its mighty walls and round arches, has a Romanesque architectural style. The floor plan in the form of a horizontal cross and towerless building suggests a Cistercian foundation. In the monastery Medingen there is a picture of four Cistercian nuns who are received by a widow in Plate. In Plate, these four Cistercian nuns and the widow reappear on the mural "The Last Judgment".

According to a legend, one of Plato is said to have lost his way during the hunt. He found on the site of today's church a picture of Mary, which had disappeared inexplicably, when he returned home. He vowed to build a church at the site. The image of the Virgin was rediscovered in his place of origin, and the one of Plato fulfilled his vow and had the church consecrated to the Virgin Mary.

From 1370, five brothers from the Plato family in the Gothic style significantly expanded. The tower with two bells is erected, the aisles expanded and the Gothic star vault created. The typical signs of the huts are still found today in bricks. The Lettner probably also rose during this time.
