The brewery was founded in 1878 by Josef Diebels in Issum on the Lower Rhine.
The amber-colored treasure of the Lower Rhine
The name "Alt" refers to the traditional brewing method.
In a time before modern refrigeration, top-fermenting yeast was used almost everywhere in Germany.
It converts malt sugar into alcohol at 15-20 degrees Celsius, making it possible to brew even at higher ambient temperatures.
Alt has a refreshingly bitter, hoppy flavor that develops best at a temperature between five and eight degrees 🍻.

In 1901, the Diebels brewery was one of the first electrified companies.
The general economic upswing of the post-war years was also used in Issum for rapid volume growth.
Only top-fermented beer specialties have been brewed since 1970.
Since then, Diebels' triumph has been unbroken: For many years, Diebels has been the undisputed market leader in the Alt beer segment.
In 2008 the Diebels brewery celebrated its 130th birthday.
The Free Republic of Diebels was founded in 2012.
