Due to the threat of fire in the 18th century, a clearing island was created. This forest-enclosed meadow valley offers aquatic, amphibious and terrestrial organisms habitats in the form of springs, rivers, forest edges, field trees and forests. The area also serves as a resting area for migratory birds.

The meadow, which is mowed only once a year, is a resting place for water birds and several ponds serve as spawning waters.
The ponds are traversed by the Neckarberggraben, a tributary of the Neckar, which flows across from Lanzenbach.
