Sticks Pass is the only major route crossing the Eastern Fells ridge between Grisedale Tarn and Threlkeld. The old route crosses from Legburthwaite by Thirlmere to Glenridding by Ullswater. At 750m it still requires effort to cross the ridge but Sticks pass makes a good approach to the northern flanks of Helvellyn or to the Dodds from either Thirlmere or Glenridding.
