Only the guardhouse, the ribbed vault on the ground floor of the west wing, the portal on the north wing and large parts of the south wing (with gate, mirror cabinet and some other rooms) were spared and were integrated into the new structure. 1737 began the construction of the reconstruction of the new baroque residence, which should take into account the representation of the 1710 raised in the princely state house Schwarzburg- Rudolstadt (Wikipedia).

In April 2015, the bronze horse sculpture "Roter Huzule" by the sculptor Volkmar Kühn, created in 2000 in bronze, was able to find its permanent place on the central terrace. This was the first time that an object of contemporary art was placed in the vicinity of Heidecksburg Castle. This is to be understood as an indication that this terrace was used for horse training and, together with the riding house, symbolizes the importance of keeping horses at the Rudolstädter Hof.
