Ehrliche Beschreibungen – was war schön, was war hart, was hat überrascht. Keine hippen Weltenbummler-Stories, sondern echte Momente.

Paths that last – not the fastest, but the real ones.
More than 65 years old. Former competitive athlete. Today long-distance cyclist and trekker. I love trails, wilderness, and surprises – challenging, adventurous, unusual. But always real.
What you'll find here: Routes I've actually ridden. Honest descriptions. Practical info. No trendy stories, but real moments.

After work today and the runs over the past two days, I also wanted to test my fitness on the bike. Despite the long tour from Las Vegas to Jasper, I’m surprisingly fit. After just six days of recovery, I’m already able to resume my base training. That’s exactly what classical training theory suggests should happen.

After a long flight, I always go for a run. What was really unusual yesterday was that I was able to run such a long distance at what I consider a good pace, even though I haven’t been running regularly for the past six weeks because I’ve been on the bike.

When I woke up this morning without any physical

I had a day and a half in Edmonton on my way back to Frankfurt, so of course I took the opportunity to explore the downtown area. 🚶🇨🇦

My overall verdict: About as exciting as watching paint dry. 😄

What stood out immediately, however, was the astonishing number of homeless people in downtown Edmonton

Since I had a stopover in Edmonton and arrived around noon, I decided to head straight into downtown to see what was happening for Canada Day. 🇨🇦 I’ve spent Canada’s national holiday in Toronto several times, and it’s always one of my favourite days to be there. The city is full of life, there’s something

Today wasn’t a riding day. Instead, it was all about getting ready for the trip home—and, unfortunately, that’s not quite as straightforward in Jasper as you might expect.

There are two bike shops in town, but only one of them usually has bike boxes in stock. And you’ll already need one if you want to

With today’s stage, my National Park Tour officially comes to a close. 🚴😊

Today’s ride wasn’t particularly exciting. Looking back, taking Highway 93A was probably the wrong call. The route is longer and has far more rolling hills. If the forest were still there, it would likely be the more scenic option

Light rain was my companion for most of the morning. 🌧️ That wouldn’t have been much of a problem if it hadn’t also been around 5°C (41°F). Together, they made for quite an uncomfortable ride.

Every now and then, the clouds parted for a few moments, offering a glimpse of just how spectacular this landscape

Deeply hanging clouds, steady rain, and temperatures of around 5°C (41°F) stayed with me throughout the entire day. 🌧️ It wasn’t until late afternoon that the continuous rain finally eased into scattered showers.

Even so, it turned out to be a very enjoyable ride. The scenery kept changing, making the

No punctures, no hail, no storms, no unpleasant surprises. Just rain. 🌧️ After the last few days, I was perfectly happy with that.

I set off towards Lake Louise under sunny skies this morning. But no sooner had I left Canmore than the rain started pouring down—and

Today’s tour data is obviously a little off, since I took a shuttle to visit the two lakes.

Getting there by bike simply wasn’t a realistic option for me. And if you’re ever in this part of the Rockies, you really shouldn’t miss 🏔️ Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. They were well worth spending my rest day

20 degrees, sun, wind from behind - not a dream today!. It was bitterly cold this morning, but the bad weather front had moved through overnight, leaving great weather for the whole day. This is expected to last for another 2-3 days. I am satisfied. We are right in the middle of the Rocky Mountains here

In the morning it was almost freezing point and it was raining. I put on what I had again and was still freezing terribly. But as {0} says, we have to go through it.

So, onto the bike and off we go, with the hope that
