Ralf Klonowski went for a hike.

For long stretches, this hike passes the golf courses of the Frohlinde golf course. It's more appealing than I imagined. All the holes are lined with trees and shrubs, creating natural green corridors, some of which are home to paths. It's actually very well done.
There are only a few parking spaces at

Everything is green, blooming, and ripening. A wonderful time of year, no matter how many times we've walked this path.

Under wildly cloudy skies and mild temperatures, I take an evening stroll from the Catholic cemetery toward Merklinde, returning through Wagenbruch. The idyll begins barely three blocks from my front door.

After a longer break on a colleague's terrace, we were able to complete the rest of our planned hike despite the very high temperatures.
The Oerlinghausen gliding airfield is one of the largest in Europe. The "Runway One" restaurant has a large terrace with a great view of the flight operations.

This tour had been planned for a long time. The high temperatures then led to a short-notice change of route and a break after 9 km. Hence, two parts; I'll post the second one separately.
The Schopketal is a narrow forest valley; there are benches about every 200 meters. On that day, they were mostly

A fresh-air walk in the far southeast of Castrop. Despite the previous rains, the paths were easily passable.
The most important new discoveries for me were the Merklinde Cemetery and the path from the bridge at the golf course to the Schwerin landmark. The latter offers beautiful views and is lined with

I have to return from Dortmund to Castrop five days a week after work anyway. Why not combine business with pleasure?
This tour has been optimized to include as many forests, green spaces, and local attractions as possible along the way.

A rather spontaneous hike in glorious weather; I was in the area anyway with family.
The Herten Coal Mine Park, consisting of the Hoppenbruch and Hoheward spoil heaps, is the Ruhr region as you imagine it: you see old industry, new industry, and a landscape transformed by this industry. You literally

Perfect late summer weather! If this tour hadn't been designed as a themed hike, the title should really be "Summer, Sun, Harvest Time." Straw bales and ripe fruit everywhere.
The detour to the riding facility on Bochumer Straße was legal and absolutely necessary at the time, as a horse show was taking
