Today is the last tour on via francigena for the time being. The weather is again very good, it quickly warms up and smells like autumn.
We start after a good breakfast in the B&B. It goes up and down again, but not as rough as yesterday. At the church of Santo Stefano di Sorano in Filattiera there is a picnic area where we get the stove out and take another nice break.
Shortly before Pontremoli comes the Chiesa della Santissima Annunziata, where we get our last stamp.
Another little round through Pontremoli and then it goes to the train station, where we have a cappuccino before departure. The Regio brings us to Pisa where we spend 2 nights.

Today we had another very demanding stage.
Right at the beginning there was a long climb on small roads. How good that yesterday we had already "done" the first part of the mountain on the way to our accommodation. Then it went downhill on paths that were sometimes very difficult to walk. The car had to turn on its back on very difficult passages. We preferred to walk a bit of the road into the valley to Aulla. There first a coffee and the shopping done.
After that there was soon another very difficult to walk route. Lots of big stones on narrow paths up and down. For the last few km we again turned to a small, hardly used road so as not to get into the dark, which we have just managed.
It was a nice, but quite exhausting tour. And it was very worthwhile to make the car a little heavier, but more stable.

What looks like it goes along the sea is unfortunately often in the second row. Restaurants, beach clubs, discos and bars line the street and block the view of the sea. But sometimes it can be seen and there are some entrances. Now everything is closed and extinct, seems depressing. But when it is really busy, it is certainly scary for our perception. So enjoy the views that are offered - and the morning coffee on the beach.
When the path leads more inland again, the surroundings are surprisingly beautiful and wild. However, civilization is always within earshot.
Without Komoot it would probably have been pretty difficult today. Our pilgrim guide is already 10 years old, but on the stage between Massa and Sarzana there are still no signs for this variant recommended there. They only started there again.

Yesterday evening we cooked at Philipp's and ate together. For dessert there was roasted chestnuts in the fireplace.
This morning it was time to say goodbye and walk back down the mountain.
In Seravezza we got a coffee with particles. On the way to the sea we couldn't pass a junk shop. We found a quite large tray nice. After we negotiated the price, it was strapped to the top of the cart. Immediately afterwards we were able to pick a few more prickly chayotes. My favorite pilgrim vegetables!
For a while we go through a nature reserve, where we pass some flocks of sheep, turtles and muskrats.
When we arrived at the sea, the tray was inaugurated, then we went the last part to our bizarre holiday apartment.
The chayotes were fried in a pan for dinner. A beautiful day with sunset in the sea came to an end.

We run along the Camaiore stream in fresh temperatures with many Italians, who walk their dogs there or do morning exercise. There are also gardens along the way and one of them grows kajots, Ralph's favorite pilgrim vegetable. One of them has to be included and now we think about whether to eat it or take it home and plant it.
A small hump in the profile turns into a sweaty half an hour: steep, washed out, narrow, large stones, overgrown with blackberry tendrils. At the other end of the road, we are clearly in the area of Pietrasanta. The city attracts many artists and all around there are several workshops that work on the regional marble.
In the city we take a break with coffee and snacks on the cathedral square. Getting a pilgrim's stamp here is again not that easy, but it is possible between two masses in the sacristy of the cathedral. Unfortunately, there is therefore no opportunity for viewing.
We follow the Via Francigena to Vallecchia, then we turn to Azzano, where a cousin of ours lives. The ascent is steep, but the trail is in good shape.
On the way we keep seeing the quarry where Michelangelo is said to have taken care of himself. And he is also said to have worked on the church of La Capella, which is why the rose window is called the "Eye of Michelangelo".

After we recovered a bit, we went back into town to get stamps in the cathedral and then to eat a piece of Italian pizza, delicious. In our current B&B, you are actually not allowed to eat anywhere and cooking the planned pasta in the courtyard would probably not be so good.

Today the track went very well again. Beautiful scenery, the air was clear and the mountains loomed a short distance away. We only had to walk a short distance on the verge of a busy road, otherwise the route was pleasant. In addition, bright sun. What more could a man / woman want.
A notice asking pilgrims to be quiet and respectful makes us think. Is it so crowded at other times of the year? A unique, but lasting negative experience? Very sensitive residents?
When we arrived at the B&B, we had to wait 10 minutes for admission, then a man came and showed us the room.
An old house, everything very nicely arranged, almost like a museum.
