A Moment at Wat Tham Chaeng The first thing that hit me was the sheer size of the Naga statue—31 meters tall, stretching 227 meters across the temple grounds. Its scales shimmered in green, catching the sunlight like jewels. I walked through one of the nine passageways carved into its body, feeling as if the serpent was wrapping me in protection. Inside the cave, a quiet Buddha statue glowed softly in candlelight, and the silence was almost overwhelming. Though the statue was unveiled only in 2023, it felt timeless, as if it had always belonged here. Leaving the temple, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the Naga was watching over me, a guardian I’d carry with me long after I left.

I hiked up to Phraya Nakhon Cave in the afternoon, the sun beating down hard but the air surprisingly bearable - hot, yes, but not suffocating. The climb left me sweating, yet when I finally stepped into the cave, the heat seemed to pause. Sunlight streamed through the opening above, spotlighting the Kuha Karuhas Pavilion like a stage set for royalty. The contrast struck me: outside, the world was blazing, but inside, it felt calm and timeless. I stood there, catching my breath, watching the golden pavilion glow against the rugged stone, and thought how rare it is to find a place that feels both hidden and majestic at the same time.

My First Visit to Wat Mahathat Worawihan (วัดมหาธาตุวรวิหาร เพชรบุรี) In the old town of Phetchaburi, I drove through the small lanes until the five white prangs appeared ahead, rising above the rooftops like timeless guardians. It was late in the afternoon, and the temple grounds were nearly empty - I was almost the only visitor. The silence made the Buddha’s footprint stand out even more, resting quietly as a sacred reminder of centuries of devotion. With no crowds around, I lingered there in the fading light, feeling the temple’s history and the Buddha’s presence in that single imprint before leaving as dusk approached.

I took the funicular up Khao Wang, the palace hill above Phetchaburi. On the western peak, the royal palace stood with its mix of Thai, Chinese, and European design, now a museum with King Rama IV’s artifacts. The central peak gleamed with the white chedi, Phra That Chom Phet, rising above the town. At the eastern peak, I reached Wat Phra Kaew Noi, the “Little Emerald Buddha Temple.” Restoration work meant I couldn’t step inside, and since I couldn’t climb the steps, I only explored from outside. Even so, its position on the hill and the views across Phetchaburi gave it a quiet dignity. Walking between peaks, with gardens and shaded paths linking them, it felt like a living museum on a hill—palaces, temples, and chedis sharing the same sky.

Happy New Year from Bangkok 😂 - of course not that early although I am currently living in the future compared to Germany or better to say due to the different time zone. Now I am behind with all those little trips because uploading and sorting out took quite some time. HANSA River Restaurant is very lovely, charming atmosphere directly at the river and the food is great…actually as almost anywhere in Thailand. Bangkok streets during the nights are great to explore…keep on walking.

Khiri Phet Waterfall is a scenic multi-level waterfall near Salak Phet village. A short but partially challenging hike especially after it rained before you can reach this small waterfall. Just make sure that you are staying on the right track.
