Fräulein Draußen and Saarland went gravel riding.

Hello from the wild Saarland! 🌿👋🌳I was here for the first time almost exactly two years ago and hiked a few stages on the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig. I still remember how genuinely and positively I was surprised at how wild and far away from everything the hiking trail and nature feel in many places. (Admittedly, I had no idea about this corner of Germany before. 🤭)Now I've come back by bike and will circle the Saarland once for around 400 km. 🤠🚲 In the best gravel style on some (single) trails and with as much gravel as possible. The first stage took me from Saarbrücken, the capital of Saarland, to Überherrn. The trail density was relatively high (🙌), but definitely suitable for gravel bikes and luggage. I only had to push a few short sections or lift the bike over one or the other tree trunk. 😉 (But that is practically good form on a good gravel bikepacking tour.) In between there were always paths and paths on which you can roll easily and quickly, so that it never became too difficult. In terms of landscape, it went through a lot of (often very beautiful and somewhat natural) forest. One or the other view was also there: One of the most beautiful was the one from the viewing platform a little behind Freyming-Merlebach. Up there on the edge of the steeply sloping sandstone cliffs, you can see far over the area of the former sand quarry, which is now a nature reserve and an important biotope.A pretty cool gravel stage from start to finish. Despite repeated physical contact with mud, mosquitoes and nettles (or maybe because of that ?! 🤡).-----🌜 Overnight: Hotel Chapeau Noir
(There is storage space for bicycles; there are various restaurants and supermarkets in Überherrn)

Camping alternative: extend the stage a little to Rehlingen-Siersburg. From the Saarland cycle path you can take the Niedtal cycle path to the Siersburg campsite there.
