5AM start - all good fantastic sunrise ..... but bloody freezing out to Corbridge, coffee and a cold sausage roll from the Shell garage (co'mon Shell where are the pastries??), sat at the bus stop opposite in the sunshine for 20 mins to defrost my feet. Then back up to Kirkly cafe to collect my riding buddy (didn't realise at the the time but the Garmin mapping had 'left the room') and off up to Mitford and now unintentionally via High house Lane, but.... road closed signs... 'it'll be fine we will just ride through it there are houses along there, there must be access' - nope its fenced off and thats where the adventure begins, there is a path that runs in what seems the direction we need, this turns into hike-a-bike. After many ups and downs along the valley on muddy tracks and fields with lots of cow sh1t, that stuff gets everywhere and has no respect for your bottles (or Bidon's if you like) and a beautiful Bluebell wood (Borough Woods ?) we emerged almost an hour later at the St Mary Magdalene church Mitford which was probably on the road we should have taken in the first place..... Doh! Oh and there was a new chain incident but we don't talk about that as I 'may' have fitted it wrong in a somewhat 'very tired late evening ' moment two days earlier ...... without my glasses on. Well thats my story and I'm sticking to it !
