Hit the North(umberland roads)
Brought the road bike out of hibernation with a view to heading out Bolam and Capheaton way. Alas, an attack of @duncan -itis struck. The chain snapped twice. So I thought I'd cut the ride short, haven't broken a chain for ages. Spot of light gravel at either end of the ride which keeps you off some crappy, busy roads. Quite a few out, it was/is a lovely day now that Dave has been and gone.

Decided it was time to get back to adventure rides. Picked a glorious day weather wise, if by glorious you mean gales, rain, a bit of sun and some hail. Cross head out but thankfully cross tail back. Went on some new tracks near Matfen, clarty, an interesting woodland track heading north from Gosforth

Spur of the moment night ride round the tracks. Such a difference at night, seemed to ride it quicker. Had a flyby from what looked like a tawny owl in the Dene.

Fitted the new bracket on Friday so out for a test run today. Smoooooth as silk. Also a narrower spindle length so the chainline is improved. Tracks were a bit drier than I expected which was a bonus. Had a bit of cyclocross hurdling practice on the track north from Double Row. Hopefully get a longer

Day off. Managed to finally remove the (very) fixed cup on the Diablo. Most satisfying. Then out with the dog round the tracks, spotted a dipper in tbe Dene. And ending with a pint.

Out in the sun for the first time in a while. Had planned a ride from Warkworth but car issues meant staying local. Still, at least I have some canny local tracks. Only a mudfest in a few places, a couple of minor ponds to ride through. Not many other riders out that I saw.

Shorter ride today to beat the rain, get back for Wales v France and test out the Campag Racing Triple rear mech I snagged from Watbike for a bargain price. Late 90s 9 speed so replaces the newfangled 10s Centaur. Pretty muddy in many places obviously ! Also now have a 30t sprocket on the back which

Thought I'd get some longer miles in. Bit of a battering down to Tynemouth but then the wind wasn't too bad inland. Reminded myself of the interminable slog up the Bowes Railway track. Worth it for the swooping descents around Tanfield and Sunniside though. Quite climb up the lane from Rowlands Gill

Wet, muddy test ride after fitting new pedals, rear tyre and headset bearings. Also first ride for shiny winter boots, photo for @YorkNey Trail Rider ! Success all round especially on the feet front.
