Today half of it was very muddy. That wasn't so nice, but still doable.
Start/Finish: "Achterhoek" shelter, Im Zitter, 48455 Bad Bentheim Komoot didn't play along properly with the recording, hence part 1 and part 2. The town of Bad Bentheim is known for its high-quality sandstone, which is also called Bentheim gold due to its color (more information in the Sandstone Museum). Since the Middle Ages, sandstone has been used to build town halls, churches, mansions and other public buildings in northern Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. In addition to Bentheim Castle, important buildings made of Bentheim sandstone include the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, the theater and the Frauenkirche in Antwerp and the old town hall in Münster. If you believe popular belief, even the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York is made of Bentheim gold. Bentheim gold has been mined in various quarries since the 11th and 12th centuries. At its peak, there were over 20 quarries here, and two active quarries can still be visited today. The beige sandstone was mined in Gildehaus and at the open-air stage in Bad Bentheim (the former sandstone quarry). The open-air stage is another highlight on this route. In summer, plays are offered here in a unique natural setting. The Franzosenschlucht is located right next to the open-air stage. The name comes from the 18th century; in 1795, French troops besieged Bentheim Castle. According to stories, they camped in the hidden gorge, not far from the castle, which is now called Franzosenschlucht. Note: Follow the signs in blue! Source: Bad Bentheim municipality
