Spitzhaus Staircase

Highlight (Segment) • Structure

For August the Strong, Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann designed an annual stairway, each consisting of seven steps and 52 landings, from the Hoflößnitz to his planned, further pleasure palace on the edge of the Wahnsdorf plateau. It was to be built on the Wolframsdorf vineyard, which came into electoral ownership in 1710. After Pöppelmann's death, between 1747 and 1750, even 390 steps were built, making it the largest baroque staircase in Saxony, which climbs 220 meters straight and 76 meters high. It was restored from 1845 to 1847 by master builder Karl Moritz Haenel and extensively renovated in 1992 using Postaer sandstone and Meißner granite. It was expanded to 397 steps with 57 landings and is now used, for example, for the Radebeul staircase.
The Spitzhaus staircase leads past the striking entrance portal of the Goldener Wagen vineyard to the west, which gives the Radebeuler Goldener Wagen vineyard its name.

Junge Heide Forest

Highlight • Forest

The forest area, which has been called "Young Heath" since 1560, was separated from the Dresden Heath by the deforestation that began in 1827 and the construction of military barracks in Albertstadt (around 1870/80). Due to the spread of the settlements of Trachau and Trachenberge, this forest area became even smaller. The Junge Heide has belonged to the Dresden urban area since 1949.

June 6, 2026,Mammutmarsch Dresden 30 km
For the very first time, the Mammutmarsch takes place in Dresden.

Many mammoths are probably wondering why they are voluntarily doing this to themselves. But hey: The route around Dresden is so beautiful that you almost forget that your feet are burning.

My second @Mammutmarsch, a great event once again, in a great city😎 big thanks to all helpers and supporters. See you again soon🤩
PS: the Spitzhaustreppe was super unnecessary😂 just kidding, it was a highlight, the view was grandiose

Today I got up early, it's off to the Mammutmarsch Dresden. No reason to get excited, the train leaves on time and thanks to a taxi ride I'm even too early at the start. Mammutmarsch has planned a challenging route. The ascent to the vineyards in Radebeul was tough, the indicated 397 steps took everything out of me and on …

The weather god was kind to us and apart from one shower we were rewarded with 24° and blue skies. The pictures with the dark clouds ☁️ were just threats 🤣

Nice route, a lot along the Elbe until..... Radebeul and the Spitzhaustreppe. According to info 397 steps 🥵. I told the photographer up there that …
