The forest area, which has been called "Young Heath" since 1560, was separated from the Dresden Heath by the deforestation that began in 1827 and the construction of military barracks in Albertstadt (around 1870/80). Due to the spread of the settlements of Trachau and Trachenberge, this forest area became even smaller. The Junge Heide has belonged to the Dresden urban area since 1949.
