Santa María das Areas Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Its construction began in the 12th century, although in later times, especially in the 14th and 16th centuries, new spaces were added, until the ensemble we know today was completed, a mixture of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque elements. In the upper part the towers rise, with three bodies and a pyramidal top. The main entrance has two pairs of columns with archivolts and a smooth tympanum. From here we access the chapel of Santo Cristo, with a rectangular floor plan and baroque aesthetics. It was built between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Due to the limited vacation time, we took the bus 🚌 from Santiago de Compostela to Finisterre. A wonderful fishing village at what was then the end of the world. A short hike from the village to the lighthouse. We didn't receive our certificate due to the bus ride, which is perfectly fine. Sunset at the end, we'll see.

A wonderful last stage of a long hike! We were able to enjoy this unique view in fantastic weather! It was the highlight! Highly recommended and everyone should treat themselves to it at the end!

-1 blister (3 days ago 😏)
-wonderful encounters
-memories... endless ♾️
-grateful for all encounters

Today I finally managed to go to the rocks behind the lighthouse to watch the sunset.
Luckily for me, no one else was interested in sitting down with the last pilgrim's boot.
I had already had a clear idea of what my photos would be like there, and it worked out well, apart from the clouds.
I even got the …

Cap Fisterra June 22nd, 2022, 9.6 km beautiful sunny weather
From the harbor it was a slight uphill walk out of Finesterre on a narrow path along the road. After about 3 km I reached a large parking lot and a path to the lighthouse. In front of the lighthouse was the last stone with 0.000 km and I had …
