Highlight • Viewpoint

Just a MUST for the hiking fans of the Sassolungo group in the Dolomites: A path can be this: starting from the bus stop at the Passo Sella, follow the signs "Naturonda". You reach the "Stone City" under the vertical northern walls of the Langkofel and walk here through a breathtaking natural landscape. Along the course, information boards provide insights into the Val Gardena flora and fauna. So you can learn a lot about the appearance, the food intake and the habitat of the living in the wild animals such as fox, rabbit and groundhog. The panels also provide information on the floral world, geology and regional herbs. The way back is via the hiking trail number 526.

Ingenious tour counter-clockwise, exhausting but peppered with many great views. Snow fields, scree and steep ramps of up to 40% make this tour unforgettable.

Oskar Schuster Via Ferrata

Highlight • Climb

Despite the low technical difficulties (B/C, 1+), the Oskar Schuster Steig is a serious mountain tour that requires appropriate experience, surefootedness and skill. It is not recommended for beginners, children, families or occasional hikers.

Route description:
From the usually existing entry snowfield on a ramp, initially secured (A/B), then climb up to a gully with easy climbing (1+). Secured with a rope (B) over the gully, then climb on a ledge on the right edge or in the gully (longer 1 and 1+). From the ledge, steeply (B/C) onto a ledge (B), on this to a wall (B/C), at the top slightly to the right (B) to the spread step (B). Over a wall (B) and at the top of the edge (B) into a scree cirque. Go to the other side to the yellow wall. On brackets (B) higher up to the ladder (A), after the ladder you come to a narrow gap (B/C). After the crack, climb up to the ledge via two wall steps (B/C and B). Go left on the ledge and climb higher in the gully (1). The gully becomes wider, climb higher on the right edge of the gully (up to 1+). Before the summit ridge there is a rock tower, to the left of the rock tower go through the crack (1+) onto the summit ridge and walk the last few meters on the normal route to the summit cross.

Oskar Schuster was one of the German climbing pioneers in the Dolomites. In 1895 he marked a daring ascent along the walls of the Plattkofel.

The name Sasso Lungo means long stone/rock. The Sasso Lungo is the highest mountain in the Val Gardena Dolomites and has a wall over 1000 m high facing the Val Gardena valley. It lies on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino.

Scenic Trail on the Alpe di Siusi

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Nice, slightly exposed path with a good view. Two-way traffic and more rush in the area of the access to the Langkofelhütte. It's even quieter in the morning.

Uiuiui ... gorgeous. If you have already done a few activities then the air becomes thin on the ascent. Sturdy shoes and good physical condition are essential. Possibly also a shirt to change. But absolutely recommendable.

As the weather was unfortunately set to change in the afternoon and a lot of rain was on the way, we chose a manageable introductory round nearby.
At the start we spontaneously decided to run against the clock because there were so many people, which was definitely the better choice. In the first section, below the Langkofel, we were completely …

A brilliant circuit around the Sasso Lungo with a via ferrata and lots of rock.

I have been raving about this circuit for years and I was finally able to put it into practice! From the Sella Pass it goes straight up into the huge gap between the Sasso Lungo and the Sassopiatto. After a good three quarters of the …

Fantastic tour! Just do it and be happy.
The last ascent to the col was icy but passable, but you should be careful. And expect cold in the last third of September.

Today we drove up to the Sella Pass and from there we started our tour around the Sassolungo. On wonderful paths, quite frequented, we comfortably climbed up, always close to the imposing north faces of the Sassolungo, to the Emilio Comici Hut at 2,154 m. From here we were on our own and the mountain path was dotted with fantastic …

The starting point was the cable car parking lot 🚠 , right around the Sassolungo with very beautiful hiking trails, small waterfalls and avalanches and very steep paths, we reached the Sassolungo hut with a small lunch (highly recommended). We continued up to the Sassolungo gap to the Toni Demetz hut, also a very steep section. You then have the …

Via ferrata week with the DAV Solingen in the Dolomites.

I already know our accommodation, Rifugio Carlo Valentini, from my tour with Carsten in 2020. We are surrounded by the most amazing playgrounds here.

Today we went climbing up the relatively easy and very beautifully laid out Furchela de Saslonch via ferrata up to the Langkofel saddle to the Toni …
